EuroDNS sends its felicitations to Portugal. The liberalization of the .PT domain proved to be a huge success, with record breaking numbers of domain names registered during the Sunrise Period, followed by a deluge of applications on the opening of General Availability; and then it was National Day.
EuroDNS would like you to celebrate with Portugal and are offering a special, limited time promotion on .PT domain names, valid until June 24. Register a .PT domain name for only €15.99, enter the promo code NDPT12A, and join the celebrations.
On May 1 General Availability of the .PT domain opened, registration restrictions had previously been lifted allowing anyone to register a domain name with a .PT extension. The same day it was announced by the FCCN (Fundação para a Computação Científica Nacional or Foundation for National Scientific Computation) that during the Sunrise period a total of 18,200 new domain names had been recorded, apparently breaking records.
A deluge of domain names registered
A follow up announcement from the FCCN on May 9, boasted the registration of 28,984 domain names in the opening week of General Availability, with thousands of businesses and individuals recognizing the value of registering a .PT domain name.
It’s National Day, let the festivities begin
As if that wasn’t enough reason to party, Portuguese throughout the world also celebrated Portugal’s National Day on June 10, officially named Dia de Portugal, de Camões e das Comunidades Portuguesas (Day of Portugal, Camões, and the Portuguese Communities). The day commemorates the death of Luis Vaz de Camões, the author of Os Lusiadas, Portugal’s national epic poem celebrating the achievements and history of Portugal. The day involves open air parties with an abundance of eating, singing, drinking and dancing; it’s the day the Portuguese remember their roots, hence, no matter where they are in the world they pay homage to their country.
