EURid releases 9000 .EU domain names for registration after winning lawsuit

9,000 seized .EU domain names will be made available by EURid on a first-come, first-served basis order over a 48 hour period on 24 and 25 October, 2011.

EURid (the European Registry of Internet Domain Names) will now permit .EU domain names to be registered by anyone eligible whose request is received through a .EU accredited registrar and in keeping with the regulations. Any individual, organization and business residing within the European Union are eligible to register .EU domain names.

In 2006, EURid, ascertained that almost 9000 .EU domain names had been registered by a registrant in violation of .EU registration regulations. Following this EURid filed a lawsuit against this registrant and finally the Court of Appeal in Brussels decided in EURid’s favour.

As per the decision issued on 21 September 2010, the Court of Appeal found that these .eu domain names were registered in bad faith and therefore the registrations were to be terminated. Allowing time for subsequent appeals and legal notifications, EURid is now authorized to implement the final court order and revoke the .EU domain names concerned.

As a result 9000 .EU domain names are now available for registration. To deal with the large number of extensions, all domain names will be released every hour, in chronological order starting at 9 a.m on October 24, 2011.

Subsequent to the opening of the .EU most of these names were promptly registered including many brand names. So this could be your opportunity to own interesting domain names such as;

The upgrade will be done automatically with all new domain name registration. Previously registered domains will be migrated step by step over the next few weeks. Two additional nameservers, NS3 and NS4 have been added outside of our infrastructure in two different locations to increase reliability. All registrations will now benefit from (4) name-servers when allowed by the related registry.

ICANN Launches New Online Information Center for New Generic Top-Level Domains

As an online home for information about New Generic Top Level Domain program ICANN has designed a new micro-site.  This site can be accessed from a button on the home page of ICANN.ORG or by going directly to http://newgtlds.icann.org/.

This user- friendly micro-site is designed for everyone regardless of their knowledge of gTLDs. ICANN is in the midst of a major campaign to raise awareness around the world about the impact and possibilities of new gTLDs.

In a quest to ensure that the New gTLD Program is inclusive and accessible to all parts of the world, the ICANN community has created a sustainable approach to providing support to applicants, particularly those from developing economies as they apply for and operate new gTLDs.

The site is easy to use and all information’s about basic material can be found under the ‘’About’’ tab. Information on educational materials, interviews with CEOs of current internet registries and presentations on how to complete the application form is available under the ‘’Applications’’ tab. Potential applicants are also eligible for financial and non-financial assistance through the Applicant Support Program. You can check the status of your gTDL application from January 2012 under the ‘‘Program Status’’ tab.  Journalists can check for latest news and events under the ‘’Announcements and Media ‘’ tab.

ICANN promises to be a multilingual platform. Many new gTLD related sources will be available, not only in English but in other languages, including factsheets and presentations.

CNNIC has issued a notification to all .CN registrants to verify their registration.

EuroDNS was informed that the Verifications will be done by an email sent out by CNNIC containing a verification link to the email address appointed to the holder of every .CN domain name. Once this email reaches the registrant/their customers, they will need to read and click on the verification link provided in the .CN Registry email.

Failing to comply with the verification process will cause deletion of all such domain names.

If one’s domain name registration information is inaccurate and incomplete, please contact EuroDNS to modify it as soon as possible. EuroDNS will send all modified ID back to CNNIC for re-confirm purpose. Once CNNIC has confirmed the modification, CNNIC will send another confirmation email with the updated information to let the registrant/customer complete the confirmation process with a similar URL link. Registrant/customer will need to click that new URL link in order to finalize the confirmation process.
