Online consumers feel safer and are more inclined to deal with a local business; become a local by registering a .IN domain name today.

Variety is the spice of life

Introduced in 1989, the .IN domain is operated by the INRegistry under the authority of NIXI (National Internet Exchange of India). Registration of .IN domain names is open to individuals, organizations and companies in India and abroad.

India successfully bridges the gap between honoring history and tradition and embracing the culture of the Internet age. It welcomes the challenge and ably proves its passion for such a disparate way of life. India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, declared India to be, “a bundle of contradictions held together by strong but invisible threads.” Although this statement was made decades ago, it still holds true today.

India is a diverse country featuring snowcapped mountains and sun drenched beaches, temples are in abundance as are busy markets. It is an exciting, thriving country, it is noisy and frantic, displaying stunning architecture, exotic foods, and beautiful scenery; it possesses an eclectic mix of religions and philosophies, each with its own festival and celebrations. It is a country presented in technicolour.

"So far as I am able to judge, nothing has been left undone, either by man or nature, to make India the most extraordinary country that the sun visits on his rounds. Nothing seems to have been forgotten, nothing overlooked." Mark Twain

Become a part of this extraordinary country today, register a .IN domain name and see your business thrive.

Over 233 million domain names worldwide

During Q1, 2012, there were over seven million domain names registered; there are over 200 million names registered in the world, with .COM and .NET boasting a combined total of approximately 116m. EuroDNS currently has a promotion on .COM domain names, €8.99 until September 30, register now to take advantage of this offer.

Country code TLDs numbered 94.9m by end of Q1, 2012; a 16.2% increase over the same period in 2011. There are more than 290 ccTLDs, with the top ten making up 60% of all registrations. Currently, the top 10 are .DE, .TK, .UK, .NL, .RU, .EU, .BR, .CN, .AR, .AU.  This information has been brought to you from Verisign’s Domain Name Industry Brief, July 2012, please follow the link for more details.

Ten million .ORG domain names registered

The PIR (Public Interest Registry) states that the ten millionth .ORG domain name was registered at the end of June 2012. Could this last minute stampede be a result of the registration price increase that PIR initiated on July 1? One of the original TLDs, .ORG has no restrictions to registration and is recognised as the domain for non-profit organisations, non-governmental or public interest campaigns; it is a domain recognised throughout the world, engendering trust and credibility.

.EU reaches new heights

.EU domain names increased by 6.1% to 3.59m compared with Q1 of 2011. It is the best annual growth rate the EURid (appointed by the European Commission to operate the .EU domain) has experienced since Q3 of 2010. 9% more new names were registered in 2012 than at the same time in 2011. The full EURid’s Q1 2012 progress report is available online for more in depth information.

.EU was launched in 2005, and is available to all organizations in and residents of EU member states. Registering a .EU domain name invites 500m people, from 27 countries, into your domain; check out the EuroDNS promotion, running until October 31, register your domain name for just €11.99.

NEW gTLDs, the latest story

We said goodbye to ICANN’s Digital Archery batching scheme at the ICANN 44 conference in Prague; the aim now is to accelerate the evaluations and process them in a single batch, officially announced by ICANN on July 29. With this in mind, the target is for initial evaluations to be completed in 11-12 months, with publication of results in June/July 2013. This new evaluation process means delegations will take place six months later than originally planned.

ICANN invited everyone, should they desire, to comment on the new gTLDs. All comments will be displayed but ICANN reserves the right to remove ones that do not follow their Expected Standards of Behavior and ICANN’s Open Comment Forum Process and Standards. One contributor is to be commended having submitted 467 comments on individual applications; the comment is the same throughout and is directed at those applications that don’t have added rights mechanisms. As of August 1, there were 1,806 public comments posted.

Say your piece, the comment period is open between June 13 and August 12 2012, when it will be reviewed by the ICANN evaluation panel.

Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan make up the four, and are duly named because of their highly developed economies. Allegedly, one out of every six households has one million US dollars in disposable wealth, without taking into consideration businesses and property; this ensures Singapore has the world’s highest percentage of millionaires. Why not talk to them face to face and encourage them to spend some money.

The accent is on Italy

Article by: EuroDNS  |  Posted on: 2012-07-23 17:13:15
Fantastico, the Italian registry, Registro.it, has announced a new naming policy for the .IT domain; it is now possible to register IDNs (internationalized domain names). .IT domain names can be registered by residents of countries in the European Union; this permission is now also granted to Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein, Republic of San Marino, Switzerland and the Vatican City.

Just because…

The new naming policy is proving extremely popular, within seconds of opening the first name was registered perché.it, moments later, perchè.it, joined the list. Registrants, apparently racing to protect their brands by registering multiples of domain name variants. Early registrations also included, normally, unaccented words such as pizzá.it, and country names in the original language such as österreich.it.

Safety in numbers

Without a ‘priority registration period’, trademark owners are offered no protection; therefore it is imperative to register all the possible variations of names as soon as possible, to ensure trademarks are fully protected. The owner of perché.it realising this, swiftly registered the same name with a different accent.

EuroDNS are currently offering a promotion on registering .IT domain names, as part of a European Summer Bundle; the offer lasts until September 30, 2012, register a .IT domain name for only €16.99, entering the promo code PBIT12A.

.IT reaches great heights

In 2010, .IT domain name registrations reached 2,000,000, doubling in just five years. In July 2012, there are almost 2,500,000 registered .IT domain names, proving its huge popularity.

The benef.it of hacking

Express yourself, whether you are a hobb.it or a herm.it, explo.it the opportunity to create a domain hack, they are fun and memorable; they are also good for link sharing as being shorter, they are easier to remember.

Daniel Eisenhut, Chief Sales Officer, EuroDNS had this to say, “EuroDNS are offering the .IT domain extension, at a discounted rate, for the whole of the summer period.” Daniel continued, “For more information, customers can visit our website www.eurodns.com or contact our sales office at sales@eurodns.com, where our domain experts are ready to help with advice on bulk domain name registration to protect trademarks.”
