 TLD introduction

.lv is the Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Latvia.

There are several historically introduced generic second level subdomains of TLD ".lv":

• .com.lv - Subdomain for commercial entities
• .edu.lv - Subdomain for educational institutions
• .gov.lv - Subdomain for government and semi-government entities. Registrations in this subdomain are handled by VITA according to these policies.
• .org.lv - Subdomain for various forms of affiliation groups
• .mil.lv - Subdomain for defense entities of Latvia
• .id.lv - Subdomain for individuals
• .net.lv - Subdomain for network infrastructure providers
• .asn.lv - Subdomain for associations
• .conf.lv - Subdomain for conferences and exibitions requiring short duration Internet connectivity

The domain name cannot be:
(a) the registered trade mark of another institution, the name of another institution or its standard abbreviation. The registry reserves the right to postpone the registration of such a domain name or to demand contributing evidence of the applicant?s ri ght to the domain name.
(b) the name of a geographical locality or object. The names of towns, villages or parishes can be used only by their self-government bodies.
(c) a person?s name
(d) a well-known name whose use can offend the interests of third parties
(e) an indecent or insulting word or phrase.
