NIS2 Compliance: What You Need To Know

This guide will answer the most frequently asked questions regarding the upcoming NIS2 regulation

What is the NIS2 Directive?

The NIS2 Directive is an EU-wide law designed to improve cybersecurity and data accuracy across digital services, including domain name registrations. It introduces strict requirements for collecting and verifying registrant contact data. You can read the official directive on the European Commission's dedicated website.

Which individuals will be affected by the new regulations?

NIS2 applies to all domain holders, including EuroDNS customers. The regulation applies to individuals, organizations, and resellers who register or manage domain names for others.

Is NIS2 only for EU domains? What about GTLDs?

The regulation will be applied to all domains, not just EU-specific domains. Verification will be done periodically.

When will this verification process take place?

In the coming months, we will contact domain holders with detailed instructions on how to complete the required validation.

What will verification look like for EuroDNS customers?

You’ll need to verify your email address and phone number when registering, renewing, or transferring a domain. Phone numbers will be verified via SMS or voice call, and email addresses via a confirmation link. This applies to all domains.

Could I be asked to submit ID or business documents?

Yes. Some registries may require additional verification under Know Your Customer (KYC) rules. If that happens, you may be asked to securely upload an ID document or company registration extract. We’ll guide you through it if needed.

Will I need to log in to verify my phone number?

No. To reduce phishing risks, the phone number verification page won’t require your EuroDNS login. You’ll simply enter the code received via text or voice call.

Should I use the same contact info for everything?

If you're a private customer, we recommend using the same email address and phone number for both your EuroDNS account and your domain contact profile. This makes verification easier and keeps your data private.

What if I am part of an organization?

If you’re registering on behalf of an organization, use separate contact details for your EuroDNS account and your public domain contact profile. However, both your account and domain contact email and phone number must be verified.

Are these verifications mandatory?

Yes. Verification is required for all new registrations, renewals, transfers from other registrars, and periodically for existing domains.

What happens if I don’t verify?

If you don’t complete the verification, new domains won’t activate and existing domains may be suspended until verification is complete.

Will my information be made public? How is EuroDNS protecting my privacy?

If you're an individual, your data will remain redacted in WHOIS wherever allowed. If you register as an organization, your details may be published, depending on registry policies. We redact personal data in public databases. We use secure verification pages that won’t require you to log in. We also only ask for data that is strictly necessary to comply with the new regulations.

What should I do to prepare?

Log in to your account, view your domains, review their contact profiles, remove or edit if needed, and make sure your email and phone number are correct and working.

I manage domains for others. What are my responsibilities?

If you're a reseller or agency, you're responsible for verifying the data you submit and may be asked to provide logs showing when and how the data was verified. Contact us so we can provide you with resources that will be helpful to you.

What if my data is flagged by a registry?

We’ll notify you to verify or correct the data. If issues aren’t resolved, the registry may suspend or delete the domain.

Does EuroDNS keep verification records?

Yes. We log when the verification occurred, how it was done, and whether it was successful. We won’t store personal documents unless required by a registry.

How can I get help?

If you have questions or need assistance, contact EuroDNS Support. We’ll keep you updated via email and support pages as NIS2 is rolled out.
