EuroDIG 2026: Celebrating 20 Years of .eu and Looking Ahead

Every year, Europe's Internet community gathers in a different city to wrestle with the same big question: how should the Internet be governed? That gathering is EuroDIG, and this year brought new angles like deepfakes, AI, and online abuse mitigation. Read on to find out more about this year's discussions from the newly elected chair of EURid registrar advisory board, our very own Chief Legal Officer, Luc Seufer.

EuroDIG, the European Dialogue on Internet Governance, is always special. But in 2026, it came with extra significance, as a birthday attached to this edition. On 26–27 May, EuroDIG landed at the Charlemagne Building of the European Commission in Brussels, hosted by EURid, the registry behind the .eu domain.

The programme was diverse and refreshingly current, spanning quantum technologies, AI use, online abuse mitigation, digital sovereignty, platform accountability, and the social media age ban. While the forum is designed to foster dialogue rather than produce binding documents, the exchanges between speakers and the audience created real space for sharing ideas and building relationships. One of the things that sets EuroDIG apart: the audience has equal speaking rights to the panellists. Everyone in the room gets a voice.

The event also marked a milestone, celebrating 20 years of .eu and two decades of trusted digital identity. Fittingly, the 2026 theme was “European Voices for the Future of the Internet – Celebrating 20 Years of .eu and the Beginning of a New Internet Governance Era”.

We were proud to have Luc, our CLO at EuroDNS, on hand in his capacity as newly elected chair of the EURid registrar advisory board. He took part in the opening ceremony and delivered a brief speech on the importance of collaboration between registries and registrars .

And because no 20th birthday is complete without a proper celebration, EURid threw a party at Train World, where 90s favourites 2 Unlimited performed their hits for the .eu community.
